For this project I am using a spare mini tower AMD based machine
| CPU | AMD K6-200 |
| Screen | 1024 x 768 Microscan 14 Inch |
| Hard Drive | 1.2 Gig Western Digital |
| Network Cards | 2 Generic 10/100 Mbit |
The system used for this setup is called smoothwall built specifically to be run on a computer and to make the computer act as a firewall/router To see more info about smoothwall and components goto http://www.smoothwall.org/
Currently I am using stable version 1.0 p9
Current version 2.0 Final
1. Choose a hard disk you would like to use ( you don't need more then 100 MB for this so a small one will be fine )
2. Download the bootable ISO image file from Http://www.smoothwall.org/
3. After downloading the image file burn it to a CD which will make the CD bootable
4. Place the CD of smoothwall into the CD drive and start the computer ( the computer should now boot from the CD ) if the computer fails to boot from CD you might
need to set that option in the bios ( refer to your motherboard manual for instructions on accessing the bios and changing boot options )
5. Follow the on screen instructions to install smoothwall and smoothwall will install. Reboot and you have successfully installed smoothwall and turned
your spare computer into a working firewall/router box running linux. If you have any trouble installing or getting smoothwall to
work please refer to http://www.smoothwall.org/
